Position Details

This position involves working outdoors with Sprout’s Program Manager to design and implement programming in school gardens in Bushwick & Fort Greene, Brooklyn and East Harlem, Manhattan. This is a part-time, seasonal position late September and late November 2016, with the possibility of future seasonal employment.


  • Assist in creating STEAM-based curriculum that encourages inquiry based learning and transverses disciplines of ecology, biology, arts & history

  • Author blog posts based on research topics and program initiatives

  • Lead school garden programming on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00am – 1:00pm in East Harlem

  • Maintain partner gardens and develop programs with students in Bushwick & Fort Greene, Brooklyn

Qualifications & Experience

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to conduct programs in a vibrant, active setting

  • Passion for food and cultivating wellness

  • Experience or training in sustainable agriculture or food gardening

  • Prior work as an early childhood educator or facilitator

  • Commitment to social justice and desire to cultivate a safe space for students of all race, class and gender identities

  • Practice of or willingness to learn about inquiry-based learning and alternative education

  • Inclination towards collaboration, with the ability to work efficiently and independently

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs


15 hours per week, $20/hr
