The Senior Manager, Nutrition Programs, is responsible for food and nutrition resources and program management. This position develops, implements and evaluates policies, programs and nutrition and food safety resources for emergency food programs (EFP) and community based organizations. This position manages EFP food purchasing program for food quality and adherence to nutrition standards and other related food access initiatives. This position develops and manages annual EFP site visitation program and other initiatives. This position will supervise one to two nutrition managers, part-time consultant site reviewers and Master’s level Dietetic Interns and assist the Senior Director in program management to ensure that deliverables and fiscal compliance are met.
Manage food purchasing and food access projects, including analysis of EFP purchasing practices; fresh produce trends, and special purchasing initiatives to promote nutritious foods.
Develop nutrition education and food safety resources: monthly newsletters, food safety and nutrition workshops, and other resources.
Manage seed grants for urban farming initiative with responsibility for developing application, evaluation and monitoring materials.
Manage EFP site visitation program for routine and follow-up site visits to ensure compliance with nutrition and food safety requirements.
Participate actively in state-wide and city-wide committees that propose policies for the improvement of emergency food services in NYC. These committees include: Policy Committee on NYC Hunger Resources and sub-committees.
Serve as UWNYC liaison to connect community schools to food access and nutrition education resources.
Qualifications and Skills
Registered Dietitian with a Master’s Degree in Nutrition or Public Health and with at least two years of experience in community nutrition.
One to two years supervisory experience.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
Understanding and knowledge of community nutrition issues, poverty and hunger issues, and general health statistics as they relate to NYC.
Knowledge of and experience within the nonprofit sector, nutrition and food safety and/or collective impact a plus.
Relationship-building skills and ability to collaborate with diverse groups of people.
Clear and strong written and oral communication skills.
Detail-oriented and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent organizational, project management, and time-management skills.
Ability to self-manage, multitask and quickly “change gears” as needed.
Self-motivated, driven, proactive, collaborative, flexible, and good-natured.
Positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
Proficient in MS office computer software applications, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook) and Internet.
Experience with or willingness to learn Adobe InDesign preferred.
