Organics Recovery Coordinator

The Organics Recovery Coordinator is based at Queens Botanical Garden and
reports to the NYC Compost Project Hosted by Queens Botanical Garden Project
Manager. The person in this position is primarily responsible for accepting
and processing food waste. This person will also help conduct outreach in the
target neighborhoods to gain and increase participation in the drop-off
program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:
Staff food scrap drop-offs run by NYCCP Hosted by QBG.
Keep detailed records and track outcomes relative to work plan and monthly
reporting;
Attend community meetings as needed;
Process organic waste by making compost. This includes utilizing farm and
landscaping equipment, preparing feedstocks and maintaining all aspects of the
composting operation at Queens Botanical Garden year round.
Model best practices in urban composting operations at all times.
Work with NYCCP Hosted by QBG staff to ensure well-maintained and smooth
running operations;
Support the NYCCP Hosted by QBG team as needed and/or directed by the
Project Manager or Director of Education, inclusive of food scrap drop-offs
and special events; and
Act as an overall ambassador of Queens Botanical Garden and the New York
City Compost Project.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree preferred (ideally, in a related field).
Experience with diverse computer applications (Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint,
Access, MS Outlook).
Minimum one year of related work experience

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree preferred (ideally, in a related field).
Chinese speakers are encouraged to apply.
Experienced composter and recycler.
Positive attitude and good work ethic, ability to self direct for physical
and administrative tasks.
Excellent customer service skills.
Local and community oriented with excellent communication skills.
Adaptable and flexible to dynamic conditions and work hours.
Ability to perform physical outdoor jobs in all weather.Administrative level skill with Google Docs, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, are
critical to job performance.
