We are currently recruiting an individual who has professional experience executing a variety of outreach activities including strategy development. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are needed for this position, as well as the ability to self-start and work independently and work well in teams. A strong interest in food sovereignty, racial equity, supply chains and working with communities.

About Corbin Hill Food Project 

Corbin Hill Food Project (CHFP) is a New York City community based organization whose mission is to supply fresh food to that need it most. Launched in 2009, CHFP is a mission-driven non-profit that works with local supply partners to distribute fresh food through its Farm Share and Institutional programs. Guided by values of social justice, food sovereignty, racial equity, and financial sustainability, CHFP works to intentionally serve vulnerable populations. CHFP works with more than 30 community-based partners across New York City.

Description:

West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH)—established in 1979 and now one of the largest and most successful food pantries in New York City—provides emergency food assistance and support services, including access to benefits like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), to low-income New York families. Through a supermarket-style food pantry, our mission is to alleviate hunger and to create a culture that promotes self-reliance and works for change.

We seek a part-time, temporary Supermarket Incentive Coordinator to work 24 hrs/week during the spring to early summer (approx. mid -April – June/July). WSCAH is partnering with Wholesome Wave, a non-profit organization that empowers underserved consumers to make better food choices by increasing affordable access to healthy produce. The Supermarket Incentive Coordinator will help implement a pilot project that will use a customer rewards card to provide WSCAH customers with up to $180 to spend on produce at participating supermarkets.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct outreach and promote supermarket incentive program to encourage existing customers and new customers  to participate.

  2. Enroll customers in program at WSCAH’s brick and mortar pantry and at mobile pantry distribution events.

  3. Ensure enrollment process is occurring according to protocol across WSCAH staff.

  4. Assist with data collection activities.

  5. Participate in  meetings with WSCAH staff and with Wholesome Wave.

Qualifications

Bilingual, English/Spanish, required

  • Ability to engage a wide range of audiences and connect with people from diverse backgrounds

  • 1 or more years of relevant work experience

  • Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other relevant software

  • Passionate about reducing food insecurity in NYC

  • Experience—personal or professional—within low-income communities. Excellent communication skills: engaging personality, good public speaker with ability to motivate people to a goal

  • Proven ability to set and meet work goals independently and as part of a team
