CPF Teacher Training: Experiential Learning: Using Parks as Outdoor Classrooms

Dear NYC School Teachers and Educators,

It is our pleasure to announce that City Parks Foundation LEARN is bringing back the Teacher Training Program that was launched in the fall of 2019. The training theme is Experiential Learning: Using Parks as Outdoor Classrooms. If you are a teacher or know a teacher, who wants to take your students outside and lead meaningful educational activities outdoors, this training is for you.

This ASPDP and CTLE Certified program is a professional development opportunity for school day, after-school, and youth educators that will enable them to incorporate the knowledge and skills learned in their programs. Experiential Learning: Using Parks as Outdoor Classrooms will provide teachers with academic and administrative tools to conduct science lessons using a New York City park as their outdoor classroom. Focusing on forest ecology in the Fall 2019 course, topics will include urban forest cycles and wildlife adaptations with hands-on activities such as learning to identify NYC trees and catching and observing aquatic species. Teachers will take away lessons and activities as well as logistics on how to plan and smoothly implement outdoor field experiences with students.

The deadline to apply is October 1st. Please sign up HERE. We look forward to working with you!

With regards,

Luis Gonzalez | Associate Director of Environmental Education
